Description
The Ganzenhoef Cultural Educational Centre in Amsterdam-Southeast houses various social and cultural
organizations. The largest part of the building is used as a Regional Training Centre. Other uses include a
grand cafe, conference centre and a sports hall. Above the centre are two floors of housing and below it
is a basement car park. The transparent multi-occupancy building is arranged around a publicly accessible
atrium. The ready visibility of what is going on inside tempts passers-by to enter the building and take part
in the activities. The heterogeneous programme is housed in a flexibly structured building: the clear separation
between shell and contents means that it could in future be converted into a regular office building.
As well as day-to-day activities, the atrium is suitable for events an exhibitions. From this covered plaza a
central stair leads to the entrances on the upper floor.
