Description

The membrane sculpture, designed and realised by 3dtex, consists of a mesh fabric anchored at 16 points in the circular ceiling cut-out. A centrally tensioned stainless steel air support creates the three-dimensional wave shape.
Length-adjustable anchor points and four steel cables connecting the membrane to the mast at the high and low points allow the tension in the membrane to be adjusted. The low point of the 4.50m long air support hovers at a height of 2.30m, allowing the area under the membrane to be used without restriction.
The material chosen by the client is a silver-grey, coarse-meshed fabric (with a 6% open area). This allows the ground floor to be illuminated and also creates a space-dividing effect when viewed from above.
Due to the statically relevant function of the membrane, this sculpture allows the space to be designed without additional supports in the 15m diameter ceiling cut-out.

Description of the environmental conditions

Because of the changing use of the building, a sculpture was required as a visual screen between the retail use on the ground floor and the staff canteen on the first floor.
