Description
The radial wave tent is a classic in terms of lightweight roofing with minimal surface structures. The design is based on the model of the soap film. Frei Otto designed and built the tent in 1957 during the Garden Festival in Cologne. It covers the round dance floor, which hovers above the water level, in the centre of a circular fountain – the so-called Dance Fountain. In 2001, the cotton sailcloth was replaced by a polyester fabric. The Tanzbrunnen became a popular institution, which is still the scene of many events and festivals.
