Description

Pavilion for the Floriade 2002 in Vijfhuizen. The butterfly-shaped pavilion is separated in two parts: the body and the wings. The body consists of 12 steel arches with increasing diameter, at a mutual distance of 4 meters. The twelfth arch is placed under a 45 degree angle. The arches are covered with fabric. Total length of the body is about 45 meters. The wings, perforated fabric shaped as a invert highpoint system with two lowpoints, are supported by a system of steel columns and cables. The wings incline along the body and also to the outside of the wings until its maximum height of 8 meters. The two wings are connected by cables which run through the body. Wingspan: 50 meters
